Peace Passion Positivity

Website for a local meditation community

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Peace Passion Positivity has been around for a long time. Justin Topik, a published Utah author, has been providing the community with daily inspirational message for many years and it was time for the simple blog to take the next steps to become a community hub.

As stated on the website: “…dedicated to being a source of hope, inspiration and encouragement to all those seeking more Peace, Passion and Positivity-things all of us truly desire more of. It is my hope that you will find a bit of gold here and that you will share this webpage with those you know who may also benefit from the material offered. It is my deepest joy to uplift and encourage others who may be struggling on this journey called life, or who may just be looking for a cup of motivation and inspiration along the way.”

My Role:
UX Designer | Content Strategist | UX Writer | Product Designer

Tools used:
Figma, Google suite, CMS

THE PROBLEM

Blogs are fine for one way communication from author to audience; however, this author has a line of branded merchandise, a dedicated following, and is personally ready to step into the next phase of the community building. Therefore, a simple blog with a daily/monthly newsletter is no longer going to suffice and a community based website with eCommerce is in order.

THE GOAL

To build a site that matches the parameters of the online community: moderate the events planning, forum platform, and online retail. This can be done in 3 months or less.

Research

Competitor Analysis

First thing to do is to see what’s out there already. I looked up several other online meditation communities, finding direct competition (as competitive as meditative folks get ;) as well as secondary competition. The point here was to not reinvent the wheel but to follow my client’s direction as they orchestrated their online community. Keeping the site simple without “feature-itis” was important to the author.

Definition & Ideation

Main Features:

  • About page - community focused rather than author focused - demonstrates humility but also emphasizes what actually matters to the author

  • Daily Inspirational Messages - sent right to your inbox! Excerpts from the author’s blog posts will be set up to send to users who subscribe for this option

  • Community page - exclusive invitation to the community’s forum as well as the ability to submit guest posts on the site and submit community events.

Targeting our typical user was simple, as we integrate the newsletter subscribers from the blog to the website.

Translating for the Client

Although the client and I had 1-2 face to face brainstorming sessions per month, we were mostly interacting online. To stay organized, I used Google suite to upload photos, such as this redlining example of how to stage a blog post, to the client. The client could then comment and refer back to this image when they are planning their next post.

Final Product

At the time this case study has been published, I still have one month’s worth of work to do on the site. Invite you to click the logo below and see for yourself the next phase of the Pease Passion Positivity community:
